Australia / A shipment-specific plan

Importing Building Materials to Australia

Resolve the goods, the packaging and the destination together. Build a review pack that follows each material from selection to site receipt.

Begin with the material schedule

Three reviews.
One traceable item list.

Use a stable item ID across the quotation, drawing, evidence file and packing list. Keep substitutions and missing records visible until the responsible reviewer resolves them.

Suggested procurement workflow. The appointed professionals determine requirements for the actual shipment and installation.

01 / The goods

What is actually being supplied?

Manufacturer, model, composition, origin, quantity, finish and intended use. Match these to the invoice and current drawing revision.

02 / Product evidence

Does the record cover this item?

Separate the model record from the brochure. Ask the local reviewer to identify applicable reports, labels and installation details.

03 / Supply-chain evidence

Resolve asbestos questions early.

ABF advises importers to investigate materials and supply chains before buying; an “asbestos free” label alone is insufficient assurance. Agree suitable evidence and any sampling or accredited testing before shipment.

Review the packaging separately

The crate is part
of the import plan.

Identify pallets, crates, bearers and dunnage as well as the goods inside. Record their actual materials and the applicable treatment, marks and declaration requirements.

Goods packaging or packaging as goods?

DAFF directs packaging supporting other commodities and packaging imported as a commodity to different BICON cases. Select the pathway for the actual use.

Solid timber, processed wood or bamboo?

Conditions vary by material and processing. Ask the packer and biosecurity adviser to confirm the actual composition and current conditions; do not apply a blanket treatment assumption.

Before dispatch / Before arrival

Make the handover practical.

Supplier & packer

Match the documents.

Reconcile invoice quantities, packing-list counts and package marks. Confirm outside dimensions, gross weights and package-to-item mapping.

Importer & broker

Agree entry responsibilities.

Name the importer and appointed broker. Resolve classification, valuation, origin, declarations and current charges for the actual goods.

Receiver & installer

Prepare the receiving point.

Agree site access, unloading equipment, protected storage and inspection. Connect the package IDs to the rooms and installation sequence.

Bring the information you have

Destination. Material list.
Open decisions.

Include state and postcode, project stage, model references, proposed packaging, available documents and the requested receiving window. Ask for freight, entry, destination and installation exclusions separately.
